What We Do.
Vocational School.
Due to a large number of school dropouts and early pregnancies due to forced marriages, we have seen many kids not getting the meaningful life they would have wanted. Because of this, RRAChild introduced vocational studies to help the kids learn sewing, weaving, and carpentry. This will allow participants to learn skills that can provide them with income to support their families.

Farming Research.
Famine and drought are rampant in this region. The school kids cry of hunger at their homes and are lucky to have one meal a day. We want to limit hunger as much as possible so we set up small demonstration farms and gardens for the children to carry out farming. Through this, we learn how to irrigate with the materials locally available (sometimes cups and buckets if we don't have rain!) We record when it's good to farm and when it's not, we record which plants are good to grow together, and we record how we can garden on a small piece of land. Our world friends have sent us seeds and it is fun to grow them. We still need seeds and the kids still have much more to learn! We'd love to have enough seeds that the children can plant a garden at their own homes to be able to teach their families and communities about farming that will result in more food production. Who doesn't want a full belly?

Home Visits.
Not all members in the community are familiar with and love education. Our team conducts home visits to check on how the children are doing and make sure they are using the supplies given to them. We talk to their parents about the importance of education and the school and ask their families to give their children a chance to get to school every day. We will provide supplies to these families as well, even if they have children that can't make it to VLC each day.

Open Library.
Books in Uganda are costly, and they are rarely found in rural areas. The only way to access books is to go to the capital and find very rare libraries! It will take a child about 6 hours to get there and almost a full day to find a library. Of course, this is an impossible task for a child. To answer their call, we asked our world friends to donate books and other reading material to the library. Today, we have over 50 books and we're still working to increase that number! These books are read and borrowed every day!

Distribute Supplies.
Together with our world partners, we provide books, bags, pens, pencils, colors, & playing materials for the kids so that they can be successful at school.
Many kids miss school because they are embarrassed about their torn and tattered clothing. So we try to provide clothing for our students so they feel comfortable coming to school each day. We provide girls with sanitary pads, so they do not have to miss school a week each month. We also try to provide mattresses for our children so that they have a comfortable place to sleep at home.

Special Needs Children.
In rural areas, people sadly think that children with special needs are cursed, or associated with the devil. 'Normal' children aren't allowed to play or associate with these children! So many times they are locked inside their houses and sometimes neglected. RRAChild is trying to end this perception and make the community aware that these kids are just like us and they should be treated fairly and given the same opportunities other kids have.

Find World Sponsors.
We look for sponsors for each of our children. What started as 4 kids in 2011 has now grown to 210 children! Open sponsorships go to the most needy kids, and directed sponsorships go to a specific child that sponsor wants. The sponsorship covers the child's breakfast & lunch, medications, supplies, and school fees.
Many rural families have no food to feed their children so we provide breakfast & lunch to the kids 6 days a week!
Because of all the bushes and swamps, we face severe cases of malaria on a regular basis. Because of this, we use funds for the medication to help these kids get well. Many children die from malaria each year because their families do not have the money for the medication needed to help them beat the illness.

We Party!
Many rural kids have never had a birthday party or have even ever tasted cake. Meat, soda, rice, or a favorite meal are saved for Christmas only IF they are even fortunate enough to have it then. We want our kids to feel special and be celebrated! Not only do we have birthday parties, but we also organize little parties for graduations, speech day, welcoming parties, and during the holidays. The kids eat, dance, perform, march to the band, and just get to act like normal kids. We want each one of our children to know that they are cared for, and we want these days to be an inspiration for other families to hopefully send their children to VLC as well.
